Free Skilled Trades Platforms Target America's 2.1M Worker Gap, Including Healthcare Careers
Two new free national platforms. YouthSkilledTrades.com and AdultSkilledTrades.com, have launched to connect students, parents, adult career changers, veterans, schools, workforce boards, unions, and employers with skilled trade careers and training. The launch coincides with the July 1, 2026 rollout of Workforce Pell Grants, expanding Pell eligibility to qualifying short-term workforce programs.
Key tools include a Find Your Trade career quiz, a College vs. Trades debt calculator, a Workforce Pell Grant Checker, salary data across all 50 states, and a growing directory of 905 skilled trades institutions. Both platforms are free for students and job seekers.
AdultSkilledTrades.com and YouthSkilledTrades.com are free national websites that help people find skilled trades training and the money to pay for it. AdultSkilledTrades.com serves adults 25 and older, including career changers and veterans, with a funding eligibility check for WIOA, Workforce Pell, and the GI Bill. YouthSkilledTrades.com serves ages 16 to 24 with a 3-minute trade quiz, pre-apprenticeship and dual-enrollment search, scholarships, and Blackout City, a free game about how the trades keep a city running. Both sites offer a directory of training institutions, wage data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and AI tools for resumes, cover letters, and interview practice. The sites launched in May 2026 and are run by Charles Switzer with a team of nine employees and support staff.
